Letter from the Chair

Welcome to the 47th Annual Houston Area Model United Nations conference!

My name is Chandler Adam Scott, and I have the privilege of serving as your chair for the Disarmament and International Security Committee.

As a junior at the Bauer Business Honors School of the University of Houston, I am currently studying Management Information Systems, with a particular interest in Cybersecurity. With this academic foundation, I intend to pursue a career in Cybersecurity or Consulting.

It would be an understatement to say that Model UN has influenced my worldview. Having participated as a delegate since my high school sophomore year, I truly appreciate the political discourse encouraged within Model UN.

I attended HAMUN as a delegate three times when I attended Katy High School, and each conference was especially memorable due to the amazing experiences, new friends, and of course, awards. Now, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to HAMUN once again as a chair!

The DISEC is near and dear to my own heart because it is the committee where I earned Outstanding Delegate as the Syrian Arab Republic and found my passion for international politics, bringing me back to HAMUN when I graduated high school.

In this committee, we will be answering questions regarding Cybersecurity & Defense as well as Foreign Political Intervention. As DISEC is a large committee & one that represents some of the most hard-hitting work the United Nations does, I expect a high level of professionalism and decorum throughout proceedings during the conference.

Delegates, I cannot wait to see what brilliant ideas each and every one of you will bring to this year’s conference, and I hope that you will walk away with a valuable experience. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all! I am happy to help, and I look forward to seeing how we will take the next step into the beyond.
