Letter from the Chair
I am Adan Leal, a senior at the University of Texas at Austin. I am studying finance and have done Model UN for almost nine years now and I am very excited for this conference. I cannot wait to see the solutions and creativity you guys have to bring to the table! I hope that you are as excited as I am to reach the stars and put our mark on space itself. Do let me know if there is anything I can do to help you prepare for this committee or any conference questions in general. I look forward to seeing you all in conference. See you soon!
About the Committee
As mankind looks again to the stars with more and more ambition, serious issues arise that must be discussed before problems occur. These two issues are the commercialization of space travel as well as space militarization. Previous treaties do exist to regulate activity in space, but as technology and society progresses, these treaties cannot be expected to handle every potential situation in this constantly evolving world. In order to preemptively avoid future conflict amongst powers, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, UNOOSA, has been convened to deliberate on these issues and present solutions given the current conditions of space travel as well as ideally future conditions.
