Chinese Civil War: National Party

Letter from the Chair

To the Delegates of HAMUN 46:

My name is Richard Xiang, and I am excited to be your chair for the Chinese National Party! I am currently a Freshman at The University of Texas at Austin where I study Mechanical Engineering, which goes to show that anyone can participate in MUN.

When I was a high school student, HAMUN was the event that I looked forward to every year. From meeting new people, to finding my interest in worldwide issues, HAMUN does it all. After spending freshman and sophomore year involved with larger committees like the WHO, I spent
my junior year with a Crisis Committee, with the theme of Avatar: The Last Airbender crisis, where I learned a whole new world of MUN; a world of comical chaos, with decisions being made under pressure, alongside logical and composed discussions. The Crisis Committee is delightfully different from any other committee. During that time, I learned the value of thinking on my feet, holding strong beliefs and values, and being outspoken about them. It is impossible to perfectly describe how these experiences have affected me. The only thing I can say is that I hope you feel the same way as I do.

Now that I am on the other side as a Crisis Chair, I will make sure to work with you as much as possible, hoping to build those quick thinking and decision-making skills alongside having a really great time debating and discussing with each other. I am happy and privileged to be a part
of your Model UN journey. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!

Sincerely,

Richard Xiang
